Persona Development
Persona type 1 : Ethan - Young kid for dental treatment of cavities.
Based on the analysis of data of past clinical records, a group of children was selected to record their behaviour and feelings in the clinic. The creation of a persona Ethan helped me understand the needs and feelings of the children who came to visit the clinic.
One of the major factors with children was that, they were bored and anxious while waiting for the doctor and needed a way to distract themselves from the situation.
Developing Ethan's persona was a very important part of the project, as children the age of Ethan made a major part of the patients visiting the clinic. It made it clear how the children would enjoy comics or games while being around their parents in an unknown or stressful environment where they didn't understand much about the dental procedure.

Persona type 2 : Sarah - Busy professional for dental checkup
Sarah is based on the clinical records of adults visiting the clinic for dental treatment.

Empathy Map
An empathy map is a collaborative visualisation used to articulate what we know about a particular type of user. It helped me to synthesise research data to assist and understand how children like Ethan makes decisions.

Lack of age appropriate features.

Summery
Ethan's journey unfolds with the vibrant discovery of a waiting area filled with engaging books, games, and interactive displays, sparking immediate excitement.
Upon entering, he encounters a warm greeting and an orientation to available activities, setting a positive and comfortable tone. Actively engaging with diverse features, Ethan experiences continuous delight and opportunities for learning through play.
Upon exit, a sense of accomplishment is reinforced by positive feedback and recognition. Expressing eagerness to return, Ethan looks forward to extending the positive waiting area experience, creating a delightful loop of anticipation and sustained engagement.
The clinic embraces opportunities for ongoing improvements, gathering feedback, and introducing elements that enhance the overall waiting area adventure for Ethan.
Product realisation
Final Product

The insights gathered from understanding the desires and frustrations of users like Sarah and Ethan became the driving force behind the realisation of a space-efficient, multifunctional solution.
The reading nook, seamlessly integrating shelves and seating for two adults, caters to the need for comfort and engagement during dental appointments.
The innovative addition of two removable ottomans addresses space constraints, offering extra seating for two individuals.
This user-centered approach, fueled by meticulous research, not only led to the creation of a functional and aesthetically pleasing reading nook but also ensures that each visit to the dental clinic becomes an enjoyable and positive experience for users of all ages.

Way Forward
